Request the government of China stop all unlawful acts of construction and militarization in the South China Sea.
China has ruined the status quo in the region, directly threatened the freedom of navigation, jeopardized the regional security and maritime environment, and violated international law by its construction of new military facilities in the Spratly Archipelago to expand its military reach. China’s intent to declare an Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) over the entire South China Sea is precarious to the world’s peace and economy.
On behalf of Vietnamese students and young professionals in the United States, we therefore petition the Obama Administration to:
Request the government of China stop all unlawful acts of construction and militarization in the South China Sea in the oncoming summit meeting between President Obama and Mr. Xi Jingpin.
